Physical Description:

Normally Koenma resembles a toddler even though he is older than any living in human world and most of those that are in spirit world. He wares a purple hate and formal looking cloths.

In his teenage form he is rather handsome looking. His hair is brown and he still gives off a regal appearance.

In both forms there is a pacifier that stayes firmly in his mouth even when talking.

Personality:

Koenma can seem very immature no matter what form he is in. In many ways he can seem like a spoiled prince and expect things from people or use them with out thinking of their own good.

Though over the years that has been changing especially since the time he hire Yusuke Uremeshi as spirit detective.

He has gotten more serious and has a higher regard for life than he ever did before. He also seems to take work a lot more seriously and has learned to stand up for what he believes in even if it means going against his father.

History:

Koenma is the son of the ruler of spirit world. As King Enma's son whenever he is away Koenma is left in charge.

Besides this important duty he is also the one who oversees the fate of all those who go to spirit world when they die.

He also is responsible for keeping the living world safe and therefore started to enlist spirit detectives to help in keep in humans safe from demons.

The first spirit detective was a woman names Kuroko and then after her came Shinobu Sensui.

Koemna mad the biggest mistake of his long life while Sensui was detective and sent him on a mission that turned Senui's morals upside down. After this the spirit detective went rouge and vanished.

It took a long while to find someone who could replace Sensui as spirit detective. Koenma wanted to be careful this time. He didn't want another Sensui so he picked someone who didn't have a very strong sense of right and wrong.

Yusuke Urameshi was brought back to life by Koenma and in return served as spirit detective. The two had a very shaky boss and employee relationship but in the end managed to become somewhat friends. Koenma actually acquired a great deal of fondness for Yusuke and it helped him to mature some.

Eventually though Koenma's past mistakes came back to haunt him. Sensui showed up and was planning to destroy all humans. He sent Yusuke and his team after Sensui but in the end he knew what he had to do.

When Yusuke was getting his butt kicked Koenma showed up and tried to reason with Sensui. Being unable to do so he unleashed his mafuken planning to trap both Sensui and himself as his atonement for his mistake.

Yusuke however derailed that plan and ended up knocking him unconscious until later in the fight.

After Senui killed Yusuke the spirit defense force came to destroy his body. Feeling responsible for Yusuke's fate and not believing he could be evil, Koenma defended yusuke's body until he returned to life a second time.

The two of them made their way to demon world where yusuke and Sensui fought. Yusuke won this time. After that Koenma was forced to go on the run to avoid a death sentence from his own father. He hung around human world for a while before his father offered him his old position back and full forgiveness.

During the makai tournament Koenma went to watch how things would unfold out of curiosity about Yusuke as well as what would happen to demon world.

When the tournament was over he was forced to retire Yusuke as spirit detective and the two parted supposedly to not see each other again until it was Yusuke's time to die. He took down the barrier between the two worlds when King Enki announced that demons were now supposed to behave in human world

But with the barrier between the worlds gone and a shaky rule at best, there are still those who would take the opportunity to harass and torment humans.

So Koenma's found himself once again in need of a spirit detective. After a while of searching he found a fourteen year old girl with a lot of potential. Miyu seemed a lot like Yusuke in personality and that was a good thing for the most part. It meant that she wouldn't flip out if sent on a case where humans tormented demons. Also she seemed very capable of growth. Maybe not as much as Yusuke who had demon blood but a lot for a human psychic.

So he hired her and has since been sending her out on missions.
