Now what? Seido sighed and looked around himself. There were so many birds it was almost frightening. They flew in a newly formed flock each time he scattered a hand full of seed. A few brave ones were even trying to peck at the bag. For the most part their calls were quiet. All that can be heard were the fluttering of the wings and the distant city.
Getting low on battery, Seido had turned his phone off vibrate. When the basic ringer went off the birds scattered again. Quickly he picked up the phone. "Not yet, Mr. Hane." He then gave a general overview of where he looked. He casually failed to mention that he was now scattering seed on nearly deserted streets. Again, the officer said to call back in a few hours.
As he hung up the phone he turned toward the approaching girl. The phone went off again with an alarm saying "Go home". Again, the birds went flying obscuring his view, but he could clearly see that the girl had purple hair. It almost looked natural.

Kotone smiled brightly as she watched the birds scatter. They were the most beautiful to watch while in flight after all. Her eyes followed a particularly gorgeous looking black bird as it sailed away startled by the man's cell phone. She watched it enviously as it's powerful wings spread and the bird took to the air, going higher and higher until it's wings stilled as it caught an air curent for a moment.
The bird was soon out of sight and she sighed before dropping her eyes back to the earth instead of in the sky. What she wouldn't give to be able to follow it. If only her wing was still intact..... She couldn't even remember what had happened to it and when she asked her father was vague.
Kotone watched the other birds and their feathers fly around she held out her hand letting a white feather fall in to the palm of her hand. The smile that now graced her features was small and sad.

Was that her? Her hair almost looked like a natural purple then some dye the teenagers find. That wasn't exactly what he expected. In fact, almost all of her wasn't what he expected. But it had to be her.
Seido began walking toward her. The birds parted for him to walk through but then rushed back to be the first to get the seed. He knew far to well that he couldn't just call out her name. That would just cause problems. The way to handle this was casually.
"Do you want some?" He held up his bag of seed within a foot of her. "For them," Seido chuckled, "not yourself of course."

When the man with the seed approached her she jumped. It was the first time all day someone had talked to her with out trying to sell something to her. So she nodded a little shyly and held out her hand to accept the seed.
When she had it she scattered it around and the birds instantly came flocking. Her smiled picked up a little again as she watched them flutter around and try to get as much of the seed as possible.
"Thank you very much." She said to him with her eyes still on the birds.

She likes birds... He remembered on the phone when Mr. Hane said this he suddenly sounded very pained. Now why would that be. She looked rather happy with them now. "Have as much as you like... I probably should have bought a smaller bag."
In the end this was very true. The bag was a bit to big for a day of searching. But it was the smallest they had. He was trying to make conversation... But had no idea what to say. Usually because of work, he was forced to say who he was first. Now he was trying to hide that fact. "So what brings you out here?" he asked.

"Oh, just walking around." She fidgeted with her long black coat to make sure it was staying on right before taking another handful of bird seed with a small thanks.
She spread most of it on the ground then turned her palm over and stood perfectly still. A moment later one of the braver ones flitted on to her palm and started to peck at the seed there. As soon as the seed was gone it flew back to the ground.
"And what about you? It seems like an odd place to be feeding birds."

Now should he get to the point or walk around the bush for a while, or the birds in this case. He better often get to the point. There was no reason for him to have her trust him first. That would probably cause problems.
"I am actually looking for someone. I heard she liked birds... so... This is where I am."
He watched her carefully but had himself positioned so it looked like he was watching the birds. Seido took some of his seed and tossed it out in front of them. He was careful only to do a little to balance out two people tossing seed.

"If you're looking for someone shouldn't you be trying a more crowded area?" She smiled as if she was joking but her eyes's appeared wary now.
She knew very well that her father would be looking for her now. She also knew that he could afford the help of someone who was very good at finding people. She didn't want to be found though. She wanted to get away.....
"Well it was very nice to meet you. I should be going now." She inclined her head politely and turned to leave.

Maybe he should have waited a little longer. But either way it was going to turn out this way. Now he just had to convince her to come with him. Or at least talk to her father.
"Wait," Seido said. This wasn't how he wanted to end this. Technically he was off duty so he couldn't force her to do anything, and if he was, he wouldn't have very many more options. All he wanted to do was talk. Then maybe they could find some kind of compromise... but to do that she had to stay. "Lets finish this bag of seed first... I have no other use for it."

She was now more suspicious of him. Either he was really that lonely or he was looking for her. After all her description couldn't be that hard to peg...... She looked at his face. No he wasn't desperate for company or up to anything shady. He just wasn't being truthful with her and she didn't want to wait around until he was.
"No I really have to go. You can go ahead and tell my father that it's not your fault I didn't come home. He's pretty understanding he'll still pay you." She turned again and picked up her pace a little bit while trying to keep herself from being klutzy. When one half of your body was heaver than the other that could be very difficult.....

She knew. That wasn't a surprise to him. And he did come straight to the point and by then it was quiet obvious. But still, he couldn't leave it like this. With a slight jog he caught up with her... and he accidentally scattered some seed so the birds followed him.
"I'm not doing this for money. I'm not doing this because your father is wealthy either. Both of those are rather corrupt reasons to do anything. The only reason I agreed to this is because I don't like seeing people worried, wondering if someone they love was kidnapped and murdered." He only kept up with her from there.

"That's nice of you but really this is a private matter. And he can't be all that worried about me. As for what you said before I don't see how working for money is corrupt. Don't people need money to buy food for their families?"
She she had turned around to walk backward untill he caught up then she faced forward again. He was coming with her it seemed and there wasn't much she could do about it.
"After all if you were a private investigator then it would be your job and there would be nothing corrupt about expecting pay. It's not like you would be depriving my father of money he needs to live."
Since he was there she may as well talk to him but she wasn't stopping and she wasn't going back. Besides it felt nice to be able to talk to someone besides her father like this. A nice debate on morals. Her smile changed again it was a little more coy.

This was nice. They were in the end talking. That was all that he really wanted so it worked. The sad part was, it was a bit to his expense. Well, he asked for it.
"What you say would be true, if I was a private investigator. So this isn't my job. I volunteered for this for the reasons I already told you. And I don't deny that your father could probably pay my rent for life and still live happily. But you were close at guessing my occupation."
He smiled and continued to walk with her. A few of the befriended birds kept trying to peck at his bag of seed. The cute little finches must have been hungry or very friendly (or vicious) to be still chasing after them.

So not a private investigator huh? But close.... Well there were a couple of things that could be so she would start with the most obvious one and maybe it was it.
"A police man then?" She tilted her head a little as she asked and her eyes went back to the birds. She opened the bag and pulled a little more seed out and started to trail it behind her.
"Though it would still be your job then wouldn't it?" Her wing was cramping and she hated it. If it persisted she wold have to try and find a pretty well abandoned restroom. Though why she was hiding her wing.... It wasn't normal for people to have wings and most humans didn't know demons existed....
But what was the point of being out of the house if she was still hiding...... It was better she supposed...... but still depressing.
Kotone tilted her head upward again as she looked at the sky. "It's beautiful isn't it."

He gave a small laugh as she gave the birds their reward for being diligent. There weren't nearly as many birds now as there were before. But a good sum of them returned to following them.
"A branch off of it," he replied. There were many branches in the police force that most people didn't know about. His however, was much more common then most. Mainly because his has to deal with murder, the bad guys, and the occasional raid. Those crime shows always like the homicide detectives.
"No... My job starts when most others end." That was one way to word it without giving away what he was.
