"I don't live with my mom." She said automatically. "I live by myself." She smiled and decided to answer before he could ask. "My mother and I don't really get along well. So it was better for me to leave."
Naiou cast her power out behind her. The humans were just thugs. Probably they were going to try and mug the two. Well that was just great. They were still biding their time though so there was still time for idle conversation.

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that." Kizuna muttered. If the girl was still probing the edges of his mind she would have noticed that his mood had suddenly taken a turn for the worse at the mention of her mother. Though, even without the power she might have noticed. His smile had vanished and his face had become completely blank. He let out a soft, almost inaudible, sigh as he continued on his way. As he walked he began thinking about his mother and her battle with the sickness. His footsteps grew less confident and sure and his heels began to drag making a scraping sound with ever step.
Now that his mind was clouded with thoughts of the past there was no way that he would be able to notice the men following them without being told. Kizuna shoved his hands into his pockets and then cast a sideways glance at Naiou. "What's it like living all by yourself?" he asked, an attempt to keep her from noticing his change in mood and to keep the conversation going. "I've thought about getting out of my house and living on my own a few times. I'm pretty sure I'd end up getting evicted after the first month or so." Kizuna let out a weak laugh as he thought about it. It was hard to pay for a house with no job.
I wonder if that spirit detective job pays. Maybe, if I can get that job I won't have to worry about money... or looking for strong people to fight. The thought brought a smile to his face. Kizuna's idea of the spirit detective was rather romantic. He didn't think about any of the downs, just the fact that he would be the unsung hero of his world.

"It's ok. I have to work more than most high school students but I manage. I live close to school so it's not to much of a walk and it's nice to have my own life." Naiou was smiling as she continued to watch the two men with her telepathy.
"Sometimes I miss being around family but my friend Miyo invites me over for dinner a lot and being around her family is a lot better than being with my mom."
She wondered why he seemed so down? Probably he had some sort of trouble in his home life with one of his parents and she didn't' want to pry..... but she wondered....

"This Miyo person seems very nice. Not to many people offer to have people over for dinner now-a-days." Kizuna said as he glanced to the side. "She's the person that makes you go to school, isn't she?" he asked. It was just a hunch that Kizuna felt. He prayed it was right as he walked a long. Despite his sadness he was still able to make decent guesses. "Its been a long time since I've had dinner over at a friend's house. I'm usually busy with things at home." It was half true. Kizuna was once constantly busy taking care of his siblings while his father was away. Lately though, he had begun to spend more and more time out on his own. Most of it was spent looking for something to do. The trip out to the bar was one of thos excursions. More often than not the places he ended up were a little brighter and more cheerful. Demons seemed to be rather fond of places humans rarely travel, such as forest or abandoned homes. Usually those places were not as bad as the Half Dead Cafe... usually.
He lifted his head and looked up at the bleak gray sky and muttered something about how the color had even left this place. The idea of color leaving a place once again reminded him of home. Ever since his mother had left them things never felt the same. The house had become a shell of what it once was. No one wanted to be there. When Kizuna was home he was alone. His siblings prefered to spend more times at their friends' houses then at the house. Kizuna didn't have the luxurary of being able to go to a friends', not anymore at least.

"Yeah she is." Naiou agreed. After all with out Miyo she would have gotten board of school a long time ago and just never went back. But Miyo needed her so she went to school.
The meant were closing in now. She and Kizuna had come to an pretty much empty street so their stalkers felt that now was the time to strike.
"We have company." She told him simply with out glancing back.

"Huh?" Kizuna asked, his head tilting to the side. He hadn't sensed anything following them. Then again he never really senses anything. He cast a quick glance over his shoulder and blinked when he saw two men following them. He turned his head forward and then let out a sigh. He wasn't sure whether they were humans or demons. Either way, it didn't matter much to him. He knew that he could take them. After all, if they weren't even strong enough to be noticed they must be weak. That was Kizuna's reasoning. He slowed to a stop and placed his hand on the wall. "You should probably go ahead." he said as he gave Naiou his sweetest smile.
Kizuna only hoped that the two men were there for a fight. Right now he had to let go of the tension that had been building inside him ever since mothers were mentioned. "I'll catch up with you in a bit. I forgot something." It was another lie, but it was necessary. He couldn't very well say that he was going to fight with the men that were following them. Besides he had no idea if they were demons or not so he might have to use his powers. If she was there he would have to explain, and Kizuna hated to explain them.

Naiou almost laughed again but didn't. "You like playing the hero don't you? Or you just like fighting... maybe both." She stopped as well. This was going to turn out very interestingly. She wondered if he would use his powers or not.
The two men were closing in now they moved in a way so that they were on either side of the two. "Aww what a sweet couple." One of them mocked. Hey you wouldn't happen to have some cash to spare for those of us who are a little down on their luck would you?" The other said. He sounded like he was asking but his face said otherwise, it was a threat. If they didn't them money the two men were going to get rough.
Poor fools didn't know what they were getting themselves in to.

"Meh, probably the second one." Kizuna said, the smile still on his face. Kizuna's actions said otherwise though. During the time he had met Naiou he had performed a few "heroic" acts and had tried to perform another. Kizuna liked the idea of playing hero. Hell, it was the whole reason why he wanted the position as Spirit Detective. When the men had finally come upon them Kizuna turned and his smile shifted from cheerful to apologetic. "I'm sorry sirs. We're actually in the same boat you are." Kizuna hunched his shoulders and let out a soft sigh. Unlike earlier his acting wasn't anywhere near believable. In fact it was more sarcastic than anything. He seemed to want to anger the men.
Kizuna looked over them. They were both rather muscular and neither showed any obvious signs of being monsters. While they would be trouble for most humans, Kizuna could make short work of him. Ever since he had discovered his abilities his body seemed to become more powerful and resilient. He assumed that it was just something that came a long with being a spiritually aware being. He didn't spend too much time thinking about it though. He just enjoyed it. "I'm sure if you go ask someone else that they'd be able to give you some spare change or something." he said as he waved his hand at them, a sign for them to move along.

"Too bad ." one of their faces twisted in to a cruel smile. "It'd be a shame if any thing happened to your pretty girlfriend here." The other of the two men moved up behind Naiou and grabbed her. He was probably pretty surprised when the elbow that hit him and the punch that followed it actually hurt him let alone send him gasping for breath on the ground.
They may be strong but they weren't even psychics. She could easily take people of their level with out even breaking a sweat. It was just one of the advantages of being a demon living in human world.
While his companion was on the ground the other tried to attack Kizuna probably thinking that the boy was to busy looking at the odd display of the Innocent looking school girl beating up the muscled thug.

Kizuna was just as shocked as the thugs to see Naiou take out the large muscle bound thug. So shocked infact that he didn't have time to dodge the man's attack. Kizuna's head moved with the attack and he let out a growl as he turned to face the man. It appeared as if there was no signs of significant damage. No bruising, no blood, nothing. All the attack had accomplished was irritating the already upset Kizuna. The boy reared back his fist and delivered a powerful uppercut to the man's midsection. It pushed him several inches off the ground. As soon as his hand came in contact with the man he left an anchor point.
Quickly, before the man fell, the spiritual chain manifested connecting the point on the man's chest with Kizuna's right hand. The teen grasped the chain and heaved with all his might, flinging the man into the air. Once airborne the chain extended several feet before stopping. The thug, who was at least seven feet in the air, was suddenly slammed against the ground harshly. Kizuna sneered as the chain and the points vanished. He leaned down and looked the man in his eyes. "Little pricks never learn. Don't pick fights with your betters." he whispered in a menacing tone. He straightened up and then dusted off his uniform. He was completely unaware of the fact that he had just used his powers in front of Naiou.

The thug she had winded was now getting up and backing away. Naiou grabbed the front of his shirt and reached out with her mind. They weren't the most intelligent of people and over powering their minds wasn't very hard to. The man she held seemed to go in to a kind of hypnotic trance.
"Your going to leave and get as far away from this place as you can. Then your going to forget any of this happened." She said flatly. She impressed it in to their brains the first one would wear off when they were a certain distance away from her but the second would stick since she was clearing out a few memory's.
She let him go and he obediently started to leave the other one started to follow to the best of his ability though he looked like he was having some trouble with it.

Kizuna crossed his arms over his chest as he saw the men limp away. There leaving was rather unusual. Whenever thugs got beat up they usually yelled something about revenge and then scurried off toward a familiar place where they could nurse their wounds. These two didn't say anything though. Kizuna glanced at Naiou, his smile completely gone, his face an emotionless mask. He wondered if she had somehow forced them to do it. After all, she had spoken to them and told them to go away. He shook his head softly figuring that could not be it. Not everyone's got powers. He told himself as he uncrossed his arms.
"Y'know," Kizuna started, "I really hate people like that. Who prey on the weak and try to act strong just because they're in a group." He didn't bother trying to explain his powers or anything. He just stood there watching the criminals wander away from them. Kizuna prayed that they wouldn't run into another group of thugs. The fights that he had gotten into had done little to improve his mood and he wasn't sure he would hold back next time. If he did have to fight he hoped that it was a demon.

"Yeah. Unfortunately they're everywhere." She dusted off her hands. "I have to say that's a rather unusual talent for a psychic to have. Though I guess they have been getting more bizarre ever since the first door to demon world was opened. Now that the barriers down it's bound to be even worse."
She was partially talking to him and partially to herself. Psychic abilities did seem to be getting very interesting and odd. She wasn't sure if she liked it or not. She wondered what kind of powers Miyo would have..... Though if she could help it the girl would never be in enough danger for them to manifest.

Kizuna's bad mood disappointed when Naiou mentioned his powers. His pinks turned a light pink and he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Oh, so you did notice that." he said, before lowering his hand. "Damn, and I was hoping that you wouldn't." he was silent for a moment before he decided to explain his powers. There was no point in hiding it after she saw it. "It's not that weird. All it really is, is a chain made out of spirit energy." he said. He extended his hands and the purple chain materialized between them, sprouting from two black spots in his palms. He stretched his arms wider and the chain grew with it. When it was long enough to touch the ground Kizuna slung it over his neck and wrapped it around his hands.
He listened more intently as she went on about the demon world and psychics. "Psychics.... So that's what I'm called." he said as he looked up. He had never really had a name for it. He just assumed that it had none. "You seem to know about a lot of this stuff, more than I do at least. You must be a pretty strong psychic." He was still oblivious to the fact that she was a demon.

"Well usually spirit energy use it pretty straight forward, It can be manipulated in to a weapon or fired from a part of the humans body. However your able to attach your weapon to other things and that is the odd part about your ability." She smiled as she said this. Apparently no one had ever taught him anything about his own kind, poor thing.
"Though as I said different psychic abilities are becoming more common." And she still couldn't figure if that was a good thing or not. Oh well there was no point in thinking about it to much.
"Oh and I'm not a psychic. I'm a demon." Her eyed moved to his face to watch his reaction to this statement.
