Ambrie looked at him innocently. A part of her was disappointed it hadn't exploded all over him on impact, but...oh well. His response hadn't been surprising. What was the matter, didn't he know how to play? ((10 bucks says you don't know where that quote came from)) When he turned her innocence reverted to a more natural expression and she dashed after him, smiling faintly at how far ahead he stayed.
Eventually they came to a stop at a cliffside. The stone wall towered hundreds of feet over them, plunging them in a shadow as the setting sun peeked over its edge. There was a cave opening into it that was far from normal. A dragon's head, massive with insanity in its expression, had been carved out of stone and extended out of the cliff itself. Each one of its teeth were easily as tall as they were, if not taller. And its mouth opened into the cliff with torches on the tunnel walls lighting the way down.
A sign was hung loosely over one of the bottom canines with a pile of bones laying beneath it, "KEEP OUT" smeared over its canvas in a reddish liquid that was quite obviously not paint.
"I guess now we know why this place was left so much to rumor." Shyeah...apparently not many folks made it out of there to bring home facts.
Ambrie's eyes swept from the bones to the tunnel ahead. "I hadn't expected it to be underground" A burried, cave city of sorts? Or perhaps it opened out into a more normal village in a gully on the other side of the mountain? She gazed off into the darkness of the dragon's mouth, watching the silent flicker of the torches on the stone. Whoever...whatever was down there, there were many of them, and most every individual she could lock onto had an abnormally strong reading and were bigger on average than she had expected. Depending on how many there were, that could be a problem...possibly even for Hiei...as strange as that was for her to imagine.
She started looking around, wondering if there were any other ways of getting in that were less likely to be crowded and supervised than the front door.
"It's a full moon tonight and the moonstone will only be available to lend its energy when its light directly hits it. If it's underground then there may be only a certain time for us to act...and it may be limited." Such as...If there were only a small hole in the ceiling, and...say...directly overhead, it may be midnight before the moonlight directly hits the stone and they may only have a few minutes to touch that sucker before the moon passes over. Assuming of course, it WAS underground, and the dragon's mouth tunnel wasn't JUST a tunnel to get into a valley village, as she'd earlier wondered. But it was impossible to know until they went down there and scouted everything out themselves, eh?
Ambrie looked at Hiei for direction. If she could sense these monsters' energies then so could he. But she could only pray he knew his own abilities with a mindset that was level-headed enough to know what he was getting himself into when he decided how they'd do this.
That just hit her suddenly - and the realization of how her mind was working. This was the first time in Ambrie-couldn't-tell-you-when that she'd actually let someone else take charge. Yeah yeah, she hadn't had a choice since he'd taken the key until now. They were there. But it'd almost been second nature which was scary considering who she is. She hadn't even thought about it.
Ambrie looked back forward and sighed, ready for this whole thing to be over.

Hiei glanced to the human and pushed her back from the cave. He looked to her, this would be as far as she went. ”Go back down the mountain, you’ll just be in my way.” he growled to her, as he pushed her back on her back by her head. He looked down into the hole and let out a sigh, before jumping down into it.
He landed with out making a sound and three guards had been standing there, they stared him down, he glared up to him. Glowing red eyes he glared to them, and they stared back before the leader, he presumed finally talked. ” Leave this place at once.” he spoke, the guards held their spears to Hiei. Spears really? How weak were they? He looked over them, and two daggers on each of their sides. Really this might be more interesting then he thought.
Spears were not a problem, he just had to stick close range. He disappeared and the one who was talking head’s fell to the ground. Hiei appeared back where he was, and the two guards swung at him, he grabbed the shaft of one of the spears, with his might he threw the other man into his friend, pulling the spears from both of them he threw them behind him. He felt a presence behind him, ducking and bringing his leg up, the demon had been sent into a wall, as he jumped back, avoiding two daggers, he plunged his blade forward.
The demon went to block it, but was to slow and bad at calculating, as the blade went across the demons body, splitting him in half, blood splatters against the wall, as he turned to the other demon, he grinned a sick malevolent grin. The demon paused shaking. With one swing, the demon’s head was across from it’s body. He turned, that was...easy?

"Oof!"
Sonuva....Ambrie sat up, rubbing her head as one eye opened to glare at him charringly. Oh, okay. So that's how it was going to be...
She smirked.
Torchlight flickered from the rapid movements and blood sprayed like a network of possessed sprinklers in the blackness of that hellish cave. It was like something straight out of a nightmare. Too bad no one down there was sane enough to care, eh?
"Well now...surface crawler." A deep, monsterous voice boomed as the sound of a sword unsheathing sliced through the air. A mucular demon with black, iron-like scales and slitted red eyes stepped up from the tunnel to face off with Hiei. "I've been waiting a long time for someone like you..." He brought up his sword in known, battle formation.
A sudden flash came seemingly from out of nowhere in the shadows bordering the wall closest to the demon. His eyes shifted to the side, just in time to see Ambrie shoot off deeper into the tunnel behind him like she'd just stepped out from a curtain - a stealth shadow-technique she'd learned long ago.
"Thanks for rolling out the red carpet!" She laughed, bouncing off the walls in a flash of speed that weaker eyes wouldn't have a chance of seeing and disapeared down the tunnel.
The sword-weilder snarled faintly but put his attention on Hiei, not letting him by if he tried. He'd get the girl later.
Ambrie skidded to a stop in a large, circular room. It was empty, save a few rocks here and there. The high ceiling was open, moonlight beaming down onto the tall, block-like stone in the center of the room. This had to be it. The top of it was hollow and had an opening, the fibers of a blanket just visible inside from where Ambrie was standing. And it seemed to be...breathing?
She tilted her head slightly, expression stone-cold as she cautiously proceeding with senses strained. This place was likely to be booby-trapped. The moonlight glowed silver off her delectable features as she stepped up the two steps to the stone and it's inventory, reaching down and pulling back the blanket.
"...What?!"

He looked to the great demon his eyes narrowed, oh what a challenge this would be, he grinned and then suddenly something caught his eyes. He looked over, Ambrie, he growled darkly. She’d die in this hell hole with this thing.
~You hear that human, your dead~
He thought as she felt another crushing head ache and heard his words in her mind. The pain would be immense as she felt Hiei raiding her mind and thoughts, he looked to the demon in front of him, and threw off his shirt, his muscles showing, as he ripped off the clothe around his for head, his jagan eye opened, and then his skin turned green, as if he had been sick, all over, and eyes appeared, he jumped back away from the demon, normally he would enjoy a fight but he wouldn’t let Ambrie get the stone.
Power was around him, as it devoured through the clothe around his arm. The clothe wilted off like dead flower petals in a fire as it fell to the ground, a tattoo had been on his arm. A black dragon curled around his arm, he pointed his arm to the demon.
Dragon Of The Darkness Flame
The dragon crawled off his arm, growing in size immensely, leaving no room for the demon to hide or run, as the dragon came thrashing through the area, then it came flying through Ambrie’s area, so she could see the dragon destroying what was left of the demon, as the dragon returned to his arm. He ran into the room, his eyes narrowed to the woman, his hair seemed to be floating up as she saw the eye.
He glared to her, with all of his eyes. ”I’ve been holding back killing you...but now i have a reason too.”

It was....
...
A baby?!
Ambrie blinked, the harshness in her expression fading to confusion. The baby looked up at her with its cloudy eyes, probably only just at the age it had received its sight, with furry, cat-like ears. It was the absolute definition of adorable. That…was most certainly not a moonstone, folks. But power radiated off its form in such strength she’d never felt before. It wasn’t demon energy, either. Nor spirit…it was…what was that?
"Agh!" She grimaced, eyes closing tight as she lifted a hand to her searing head.
"You hear that human, your dead."
Fear shot through her, but it quickly channeled into outrage. What the heck was he so mad about? You play in vegas, you go broke in vegas. The only reason she sought him out was so she could get a hold of this moonstone - he knew that. What? Was he mad she hadn‘t followed “orders“?
Pff, shyeah. Alright Hiei. How many people do you stand by and let walk away with your stuff?
But still, she had just one more question. If this kid was really the “moonstone”--er, moon baby, what in the world was the key for?
She tilted her head and pulled the blanket back more, revealing a rather…nasty looking iron collar. She ran her fingers down it and pulled up what looked like an energy chain. The kid was bound to this stone. Ahh…that’s why.
Her breath caught, brows lowering as her eyes shifted to the side. A gentle breeze was picking up, blowing a few pebbles across the room as she partially turned, staring back the way she’d come - something huge was coming. The breeze suddenly turned into a hurricane like wind and she brought up an arm to shield her face, teeth bared, as the cave demon’s screaming filled her ears and the face of a dragon her worst nightmares couldn‘t‘ve envisioned to be more monstrous.
”Sh*t!” She grabbed the baby and pulled it into her arms. She kneeled down and shielded it between her and the stone since the chain wouldn‘t let them go any farther, hiding her face as all hell came through the room. Roaring, screaming, and the sound of crashing boulders, it was the sound of absolute chaos but she kept her face hidden and eyes shut tight.
Then suddenly, all was still.
Nothing but the sound of a few falling pebbles and her own rapid, adrenalinated breathing kept the room from silence.
She coughed on the thick cloud of dust as she lifted her head. She looked around, dust and small rocks covering her. This place looked completely different.
Ambrie looked down at the baby, who looked up at her, grinning like a possum.
She needed to calm down.
The sound of rapid footsteps made her turn, only to see some freaky…green…eye monster running right toward them. Her arm whipped around and a flashing ball of energy aimed for the demon, tiny bolts of lightning licking the air chaotically. ”Get back!” She hissed in a voice that would scare the devil.
”I’ve been holding back killing you...but now i have a reason too.”
She blinked, her glowing eyes, her hostility and the energy in her palm fading as she looked at him.
”..H..Hiei?” She didn’t even want to know…
He looked furious. And rebellion stirred in her. Why? Why was he so mad? It’s not like he hadn’t just done the exact same thing to her! What was he going to do if he'd walked out of there all powerful? Killed her then, too? She'd thought he was...better than that.
Another hard lession.
”Why are you…”
A massive boulder suddenly fell to the floor, rattling the ground. And it seemed as though it set off a chain reaction. Ambrie’s grip tightened around the baby as more started to fall, closing her eyes to the dust and debrie as the tunnel started to fall.

He stared her down, and she seemed to be gripping something to her chest. His ears twitched, as he looked up a boulder coming down towards him. If it would hit him, he would be dead as an ant under a great boot. He glared up to it, and it was just above his highest piece of hair, he grabbed his blade and in an instant it was destroyed the boulder it fell down into small pieces well more it was like dust, he had cut it into dust within a blink of an eye.
He glared to her. He had no need to watch over a child, so maybe she would find her self living longer then need. He raided her mind, yes she’d play nanny. He appeared on the rock, and he brought his blade down. There was a ‘chk’ of a sound and the chains had been broken. He gripped her by her head and jumped up, she would feel sick at the sudden movement, but he didn’t really care for her well being, he threw her to the ground and placed his blade to her neck.
”Give me the child” he spoke as he stared down to her, snow was starting to fall. ”Be happy I don’t kill you where you lay, wench.” he spoke in a tone that would make her flinch in fear, as he grinned down to her, he had a giant eye ball in his forehead that had been glowing purple, as he stared down to her, oh how he would just love to thrust his blade into her neck, and take the child.
Wait he had a better idea for the child. Kurama was good with anything weak! Children where weak! He could leave it to Kurama, yeah that was a good idea. He smirked pressing the blade down onto her neck, causing a stream of blood to flow down. No he still wasn’t going to kill her, just leave her on this rock alone. Yeah that sounded better.

Ambrie screamed just before she landed on the stone. It might’ve hurt if she hadn’t had a million scarier things going on. She was…alive? Alright, that was…good…They were above the collapsing room…as if that were any safer.
And there was Hiei, a complete psychopath.
She kicked and scooted back, away from him, until she felt her back hit something hard and cold. She glanced back frantically, saw the boulder, then looked forward only for her neck to meet cold hard steel. Ambrie‘s grip reflexively constricted and she turned away as much as she dared, trying to protect the baby from his crazy self, if nothing else. Her breath came quick and shallow, and she caught herself starting to tremble. She hated fear, hated it more than anything else. Hated it more than pain, jealousy, frustration, and that was probably because it was that one thing that tormented her most. Rarely had Ambrie been afraid of anything physical…in her latter years at least. But here it was. And all she wanted was for everything just to stop.
Her eyes swept up from his blade to his face, brows twitching.
”Give me the child. Be happy I don’t kill you where you lay, wench.”
What was she supposed to do?! She couldn’t hand this nut job a baby! A moonstone yes, an artifact yes, but a baby?! A tiny cry escaped her lips when he pushed the sword in. Soft, femine grunts came from her as she tried to squirm away, somehow...without injuring herself farther. ”Stop it!” She hissed in protest, almost inaudibly under her whimpers. What the heck? What was he even going to DO with a baby? Even if Hiei got back to town in half the time it took them to get here with her “dead weight”, that was still a long time. Babies cried, babies pooped, babies got hungry. He wasn’t going to…kill the baby too…was he?
The depths of her eyes seemed to quiver as she looked up at him, tears accumulating at their rims. It was because of fear and pain yes, but mostly betrayal.
”..w…what’s wrong with you…?” A tear slipped over her cheek.
The baby peered around her arm at Hiei and all his eyes. It hadn’t been the least bit afraid of the Darkness Dragon, or the screaming, or the collapsing tunnel. But something about being green and having eyeballs everywhere, and the tension radiating between him and the lady holding it, made Hiei very…frightening. The inner ends of its brows furrowed up, a frown forming, and sure enough…
”WAAAAAHHH!!!”

He stared down coldly to the girl as she started to cry. So weak, what?! Did she expect him to let her take the power, be it child or stone. He would have it in his possessions. He gripped his blade tightly, and saw her try to struggle, he pressed the blade more down on her neck, but not enough to puncture any of the wounds. He didn’t need or want to get any human blood on the baby, the last thing he needed was a blood thirsty demon child on his conscious...wait...not like he had one. Heh. He wanted her to give him a reason to jam this blade into her throat, to see the red ink spill out of it’s human pen.
What did she think, he spent a few days protecting her, and he would be her best friend, he would just let her leave with the moon stone, child what the hell ever?! Oh she was wrong so horribly wrong, he tolerated her nagging, her constant bitchy-ness, how slow she moved, he might have protected her from the demons, but that was only him getting the other half of the key. Damn right he was a maniac. He glared down to her. ”I said give me the chi-” a cry shook the air. He looked down, all of his eyes to the child. He raised his eye brow, but she couldn’t see this, all his face was a shadow at the moment, all she could really see, or focus on at least was the green arm, covered in eyes pointing a blade to her neck.
The eye on his fore head, the jagan eye shined a great red she could see this because it stuck out greatly over his shadowed face, and the area became calm, and a shushing aura appeared, it would calm the child, that was what he tended to do. He kept his stare to Ambrie, all she saw was his face shadowed, and his red eyes gleaming.
Kurama or Yusuke or Botan. They liked annoying things...well Botan and Yusuke where annoying things. He kept his mind on track, while thinking what to do with the child. He certainly wouldn’t raise it. He hadn’t had the time for children, and he wouldn’t want to give the child to his sister. He glared to her, why was she crying? Stupid whimpering, he thought and he mentally shrugged his shoulders. A girl crying didn’t woe him over to feel like an ass hole. It might have worked for Kuwabara, and maybe even Yusuke or Kurama, but not Hiei, no. This girl was a fraud and he would not fall for any of her tricks.

The crying baby had thoroughly freaked her out. Ambrie had absolutely no experience with children. She wished she did, she really did like them…but had never had the time. What was wrong with him all of a sudden? Hiei’s scary face? Yeah, she knew how you felt, kid.
Ambrie had her own problems to deal with at the moment though. It was never fun to have a sword close to your neck, much less…slicing into your neck. Especially when it was someone who’d threatened to kill you more than once. She’d overlooked the first few. Oh sure, she took them into consideration, but that was back when she had a part of the key that…apparently…they hadn’t even needed. This whole “adventure” had been so whack. Laying here at someone’s mercy, and so many times, was truly not her style. Had she crossed paths with Hiei without having any reason to stay with him, things probably would have been much more brief and much uglier. But she really had started to like him somewhat when he wasn’t being like this. Or maybe it wasn’t so much the fact that she liked him as much as she just wanted to. She wanted to like someone, and have a little bit of faith in them…for once. It was more of a game of make-believe than anything, probably, that got a little more to her head than she‘d realized. Pretend Hiei wasn’t a raving lunatic, see the best in this guy since apparently you’re stuck with him and you can’t put his *ss in the dirt for the things he did like you could everyone else you were mostly associated with. He took away the option of being a great portion of who she was, her defense mechanisms, she’d had to replace it with something. When you operated in a defense mechanism (of sorts) 24/7, and then you were forced out of them, on pain of death or otherwise, what naturally happened? Your..defenses came down a bit. You became more comfortable.
Maybe that was why it stung.
The baby’s cries began to die and she looked up, studying Hiei’s shadowed face, that eye, then glanced back down at the baby who was now going a bit limp in her arms.
”What are you…stop!” He was doing something to the kid. She didn’t know what, and that’s what scared her.
Ambrie shot back suddenly in a flash of inhuman speed. Nothing compared to his of course, but hopefully he was distracted enough doing his hoodoo-woodoo that his killing reaction might be delayed by a fraction of a moment. She landed in a crouch then rose to her feet, grimacing in pain and frustration as one hand moved up to her neck, blood running down into her shirt as she backed away. ”Just stop it!" She begged, "Why are you the bad guy?!” She didn‘t want to play this anymore, ”Look you got me, I give up! This isn’t about a moonstone anymore, this is a baby. And..." Her voice lost its venom, and she sniffled. "you’re being…really crazy right now…” Maybe he just didn’t understand. He was a demon after all…maybe he wasn’t able to understand. Babies were sacred…you don’t hurt them or hurt their heads with mind powers or whatever he was doing, and it was obvious that this was her fear. Ambrie had no idea the baby could give power. It was just a baby to her, this whole thing was over, just Hiei…was…being mean.
”Just, please…calm down, you…" She sighed, "you win...” Ambrie looked at the baby in her arms, sleeping now. He was a demon too…if he had been older he probably would’ve been trying to kill her as well. But he was still a baby. What kind of future was he going to have if she just…let someone like Hiei take him away?
She looked up at the demon ahead of her, ”Promise…you won’t hurt him?” Her eyes shimmered, expression one of defeat, mistrust and so much sorrow. She was...sort of attached to the little guy already.

It happened extremely fast, his eyes narrowed to her, and his blade had been in the ground where the human had been.. Her scent had been strongly in the air, a scent that he would have to burn bodies for him to forget. He growled, what type of idiot was this human? I mean first she went after him like some rabid dog, then when he beat her, he let her live(that was his first mistake) then she followed him around like his own fucking shadow. Begged him to help her, and he had accepted to help her(there was his second bloody mistake) then he raided her mind and came to this hell of a rock. Saved her a few times(his Biggest mistake) and now he had a chance to kill her.
He stared down to her, at least that spawn from hell stopped crying. He blinked and a storm had been coming, a bad snow storm. Meaning he would have to hurry up. He glared down to her as she stood up, the child in her arms and the blood running down her neck. He smirked to her, he certainly wasn’t the good guy either, nor bad guy. Hiei worked for himself until he had to work for the spirit detectives again. He was himself, his own demon and he would do what ever he needed to do to survive. His ears twitched. Was she speaking again..?
He raided her mind, the baby was quiet. He looked over her thoughts. She had been completely oblivious to what the baby was. Good. He glared to her, and sheathe his blade, holding out his arms, as the eyes around his body closed, and his hair slowly returned to normal, his skin fading from that nasty green to his normal porcelion colored skin. His chest was bare, and he stared to her his same rude red eyes seemed to invade her mind every time he stared to her, had she been nothing to him? Had she thought of him as a friend, and he thought of her as nothing but a package that needed to be delivered, that maybe so, but quiet frankly. The thought of friends never crossed his mind, at least not often.
He stared to her. ”I have no reason to hurt the child.” he spoke acidly. What type of idiot would imagine him hurting a child, of course she had no idea to his past. As a baby not even a toddler, despite his young age he remembered it clearly. It had been snowing like it was around here, and he was thrown off a mountain side, his hand went to the crystal around his neck. His mother was held back as her best friend through the child off the cliff. He glared to her, his eyes narrowed to the child.

Ambrie studied him for a moment, knowing he was in her mind…and could be whenever he wanted. But it wasn’t fair…she didn’t know what he was thinking. And she wanted to. Of course he didn’t have a reason to hurt this baby. No one ever had a good enough reason to do something like that. But Ambrie didn’t have to be a mind reader to know Hiei was no daycare volunteer. Most accidents happening to babies were just that. What did he know?
No less than she did, probably…but…come on now. If you had to chose one of them to come babysit, which one would it be? Hopefully neither…poor kid was doomed.
She looked at Hiei like he was coming to take her best friend. Then she looked down, the baby’s dark, messy hair falling around its dark, broad feline ears. They twitched every now and then when a snowflake landed on them, their fine, baby fur unbelievably soft. She wrapped the blanket more snuggly around his little body, then stepped over to Hiei. A tear fell, landing on the strange knitted blanket, as a breeze swept up to warn of the coming storm that she really should be worried about right now. She knew she was about to be on her own. But it couldn’t’ve been farther from her mind.
”Please don’t hate me, Hiei.” She muttered, knowing this was probably the last time she‘d ever see either of them. ”I know I tried to use you, but…it was necessity…I‘m sorry.” She didn’t understand why it mattered. Maybe it was just because…she had…considered him a friend. And now that was being ripped from her, as it had so many times before, along with this little kid who had been all alone.
Delicately, she handed the baby over. Feeling his weight leave her arms almost felt like she’d lost a part of herself. Or failed him some how. She felt it was her duty to protect him, he was an orphan, probably…but she couldn’t…not now.
”Take care of him, okay?” She looked up at him solemnly, ”You're all he has.”

He stared to her, as he sensed a sadness come to her. He didn’t seem to care at all to be honest. He stare to her, her giving him a hurt look. He could careless about it, if she wanted another one. She could have her own. He thought acidly as he held his hands out waiting for her to place the child to him. From what he hears humans like to breed at a young age, the thought made him shudder in disgust.
He paused, and his whole body went rigid, as he saw her cry a tear. He paused and his memories flooded into his own mind. His own mother. He looked to her, his gaze softening. As she handed over the child. He held it in his own arms, and how awkward it felt to him, to hold something so soft and delicate. He looked down to it, his red eyes narrowing, it had neko ears, and he looked to the oddly knitted blanket, hmm that creature was probably it’s guardian or something he hadn’t dug that deep into the demon’s memory, he sort of killed it after he read that the sacred moon stone was really just a stupid child.
He felt some sympathy for the girl. ”The child will be safe, I will put him under Lord Koenma’s safety.” he spoke as he looked to her, and gripped the child to his bare chest, before jumping into a tree branch. ”Just follow this path down this hill and you will reach the bottom.” he spoke as he jumped forward, the child in his arms, as he jumped moving quickly, he had no worried about the child dying or dropping from his arms. He jumped left to right, until Ambrie was out of his sight. By the rate he had been running he would be off of this mountain by sun rise tomorrow. He knew this well, he sped up slightly as he ran.

Eyes overshadowed as her head tilted down, even after they disappeared. The wind howled, yet Ambrie found herself trying hard not to let the silence get to her, or the fact that she was now alone in this world full of monsters. But she could handle it. It’s not like she’d brought Hiei along to fight her battles for her. He just sort of…did. Though, it was the question of what to do now that was the most disheartening. Ambrie was supposed to be all powerful by this point. But instead here she was, having gained absolutely nothing but a slit throat and a stomach that was beginning to growl again. Should she go back to human world? For what? There was nothing for her there. Apparently there had been suspicious happenings, but what do you expect when you let the barrier down? They had spirit detectives for that. Stay in demon world? Where she “had no friends and was, in fact, a meal”? Well…at least it would keep her on her toes. The moonstone hadn’t been the only story she’d heard. Perhaps she’d return to the market, get her bearings, eat something, then head back out.
The fact that the kid was going to lord Koenma made her feel better, even though she still felt sort of…empty. Hopefully someone of that stature would take a little guy like him, or know of something good to do with him at least.
She wrapped her arms around herself as the baby’s warmth faded. Hiei could be persuasive she supposed…and she left it at that. It was out of her power now.
Giving one final glance back at the ruined tunnels, Ambrie turned and dashed down the path, testing herself against Hiei’s full speed as she followed their scents to see how long she could keep them before they faded away.
[/size] OOC:// End!
